Tidal Pool Collection

June 1, 2024 ·

It took longer than anticipated to get the Tidal Collection photographed and ready to float out into the world. We lost our sweet cat Sassafras. She was our 20-year old beloved, and our hearts were crushed.

It was hard to get myself back into the studio, because that was our place, mine and hers. She would wait for me there every morning, and ask for snuggles all day long. It was hard to go back in there. I took a few weeks of watching Schitt’s Creek and drinking tea and hibernating in my sleeping bag.

My first day back in the studio was to photograph the Tidal Pool Collection for you. It was such a balm staring into each stone through the camera lens, these tiny, quiet worlds.

When I imagine these gemstones on your hands and strung around your necks, I imagine the comfort they might bring you too. In times of life frenzy or work stress, I hope that when you bring these pieces up for a closer look, you find gentle calm as you float through these Lilliputian landscapes.

These lodolite gemstones, also called garden quartz, are the stones of my north Atlantic dreams.

Lodolite is a variety of quartz with inclusions of chlorite, iron and calcite. These minerals can be seen as plumes in the colorless stone with green, pink, yellow, brown, white and red. It is often called garden quartz or scenic quartz because it looks like a mossy covered miniature garden.

To me, lodolite often looks like the Maine Atlantic tidal pools with their plumes of algae and the rippling clear water.

Tidal Pool Necklace

There will be (19) necklaces available.
Suspended from chains adjustable between 17″ – 20″

See the photo of the pendant being held for size reference
Price: $110 – $155 per necklace

These necklaces are made from quite a range of lodolite quartz gemstones.

Some have soft plumes of fine grain inclusions, like sand swirled up by a wave.

Others have beautiful, intricate pillars climbing through the stone, like coral reefs at the bottom of a clear pool.

And others, my particular favorites, and black or golden rutiles cutting through the clear stone. And these ones look for all the world like spiky little urchins toddling along at the bottom of a tide pool. I love these ones best.

These stones are set in tall pronged bezels. The backs have been textured to look like soft waving sea grass.

And they have been oxidized gently buffed to reveal highlights.

Set atop 3mm half-round bands

True to size.
Price: $105 – $128
(Price is dependent on size/cost of the gemstone.)

I have set them in pronged settings that look like tiny sea meadows, tufts of ocean grasses practically waving atop the hand.

And on each side of the stone, two smooth sterling beach stones. Set atop a half-round band for comfort.

I just adore these sweet little rings. I tried to choose all the very loveliest lodolite gemstones from my collection, and I have so many favorites.

I hope you love them as much as I do.

Barnacled Tidal Pool Necklace

There will be (45) necklaces available.
Suspended from chains adjustable between 17″ – 20″

See the photo of the pendant being held for size reference
Price: $110 – $155 per necklace

Sizes range from tiny (15mm) to large (45mm)

These necklaces are made from a handful of my favorite garden quartz gemstones.

They are simply set in straight bezels with sterling silver barnacles along for the ride.

There is a narrow rim around the bases to give a dark frame to the stones.

I wanted them to look perhaps a bit rusty and have the finish be irregular, like waves had rolled them around rocks and sand and you just stumbled upon them at the beach.

So I tumbled them just enough to pull away a bit of the top oxidation on the bottom rims, as opposed to leaving them a deep black how I usually do.

They look like tiny treasures pulled from the ocean, chipped and worn, beautiful and organic.

Tiny worlds held in stone, to wear upon the hand or around the neck. When I look into them, I feel convinced a tiny seahorse is going to float out from behind the plume inclusions. These have been a balm for me, and I hope they bring you serenity as well.

This collection will float into the SHOPIFY shop on
SUNDAY, JUNE 2nd at 7:00 p.m. EST.

🦋 Lilting Blues Earrings 🦋 When I think of 🦋 Lilting Blues Earrings 🦋

When I think of blue butterflies, I think of Vladmir Nabokov, who also lived in Ithaca, New York for a spell, as we did.

He was an avid amateur lepidopterist, and even discovered and named a few species himself, particularly common blue butterflies.

There is still a collection of the butterflies he caught and studied at Cornell. We were able to peek at them once a year when Cornell would dust off the archives and bring them out for people to see.

And so, I named these earrings after those lilting common blues, soft as a summer morning and twice as beautiful.
